Product Overview

m-Toluidine, CAS No. 108-44-1, is the meta-isomer among the three isomers of toluidine (ortho, meta, and para). It is a colorless to slightly yellow transparent liquid at room temperature with a distinctive aromatic amine odor, and it tends to oxidize and darken during long-term storage. Industrially, it is typically produced through the catalytic hydrogenation reduction of m-nitrotoluene, followed by distillation purification to control the content of the ortho and para isomers. In the fuel sector, this product can be used as an octane-blending component; more importantly, its applications extend to serving as an intermediate for dyes and pesticides, where the meta relationship between the methyl and amino groups on its benzene ring gives it unique selectivity in azo coupling reactions.

Product Uses

  1. Fuel Blending: Used as a gasoline octane-improving component, often compounded together with N-methylaniline and similar substances.
  2. Dye Intermediate: A key aromatic amine raw material for synthesizing azo dyes, acid dyes, and organic pigments.
  3. Pesticide Synthesis: Used in the production of certain herbicide and fungicide intermediates.
  4. Pharmaceuticals and Fine Chemicals: Used as a raw material for synthesizing pharmaceutical intermediates as well as additives for rubber and resins.

Packaging and Storage/Transportation

Packaging: Packaged in 200L galvanized iron drums, with a net weight of approximately 200 kg per drum. IBC tote tanks and tank truck transportation can also be provided upon request.

Storage: This is a Class 6.1 toxic substance, UN No. 1708. It should be stored in a dedicated hazardous materials warehouse that is cool, well-ventilated, and shielded from light, kept separate from oxidizers and acids. Containers must be well sealed, and nitrogen blanketing is recommended to preserve color quality. The warehouse should be equipped with ventilation and leak-containment facilities.

Transportation: Transportation must be carried out in accordance with Class 6.1 toxic substance regulations, and vehicles must display hazardous materials markings. During transport, the product must be protected from direct sunlight, rain, and high temperatures; loading and unloading should be handled gently to prevent packaging damage that could lead to leaks, and operators must wear protective gloves, goggles, and gas masks.
