Product Introduction

Polymeric Diphenylmethane Diisocyanate (Polymeric MDI, abbreviated as PMDI), grades M20S and 44V20L, CAS No. 9016-87-9, is a brown liquid. It is composed of 4,4′-diphenylmethane diisocyanate monomer along with its dimer, trimer, tetramer, and higher polymers, with an average functionality of approximately 2.7. It is solvent-free, liquid at room temperature, and remains easy to handle and store at temperatures above -20°C. M20S and 44V20L are the most widely used general-purpose rigid foam PMDI grades, offering good flowability, strong foaming capability, and excellent product strength and dimensional stability. Compared with TDI, PMDI has an extremely low vapor pressure and low volatility, providing significantly better workplace environmental friendliness, making it the mainstream isocyanate for rigid polyurethane insulation materials.

Product Applications

  1. Rigid Insulation Foam: Reacted with polyether or polyester polyol formulations to produce insulation layers for refrigerators and freezers, architectural insulation boards, cold storage panels, and pipeline insulation;
  2. Spraying and Casting: Used in polyurethane spray insulation, on-site pour-in-place foaming, and solar water tank insulation;
  3. Semi-Rigid Foam and Automotive Parts: Used to produce automotive steering wheels, instrument panels, headliners, and sound-absorbing components;
  4. Self-Skinning and Packaging Foam: Used in flexible self-skinning foam, high-resilience flexible foam, and packaging cushioning materials;
  5. Adhesives and Wood-Based Panels: Used as a formaldehyde-free adhesive (MDI binder) for straw board, oriented strand board (OSB), and engineered wood, as well as for sealing materials and waterproofing/leak repair.

Packaging, Storage & Transportation

Packaging: Standard packaging in 250kg galvanized iron drums (nitrogen-blanketed); for large volumes, shipped in bulk via 1250kg IBC totes, ISO tank containers, or tank trucks; a 20GP container can accommodate 80 drums (4 drums/pallet, 20 pallets).

Storage: This product is not classified as a hazardous chemical and is stored as general cargo, but it is extremely sensitive to moisture. The optimal storage temperature is 15~35°C, with a shelf life of generally 612 months under sealed, moisture-protected conditions: temperatures above 35°C or moisture ingress will cause an irreversible increase in viscosity; below 15°C, pumping and pouring become difficult; below 0°C, crystallization may occur. Once a container is opened, it must be immediately resealed and nitrogen-blanketed to prevent moisture absorption and the formation of polyurea precipitate. Must be stored away from water, alcohols, amines, strong alkalis, and oxidizing agents.

Transportation: Transported as general cargo (non-hazardous), via tank truck, tank container, or drums. Strictly avoid rain exposure and impact during loading and unloading; maintain ventilation at the work site. Personnel must wear penetration-resistant gloves and goggles to avoid skin and eye contact; isocyanate substances are sensitizing, and local exhaust ventilation is recommended for long-term work environments.
