Cyclohexanone, CAS No. 108-94-1, is a colorless to light yellow transparent oily liquid with a mixed mint and acetone-like odor. Industrially, it is produced from pure benzene and hydrogen as raw materials, via either the cyclohexane oxidation process or the benzene partial hydrogenation-cyclohexene hydration process, with the latter offering better atom economy and fewer by-products. Cyclohexanone is a core intermediate in the nylon industry chain, with over 80% of production used to manufacture caprolactam (which is further processed into nylon 6) and adipic acid (which is further processed into nylon 66). At the same time, it has excellent solubility for resins, cellulose, and oils and fats, making it an irreplaceable solvent for high-grade coatings, inks, and PVC adhesives. Product Uses

  1. Caprolactam Raw Material: Converted into caprolactam via oximation and the Beckmann rearrangement, serving as the upstream raw material for nylon 6 chips and tire cord fabric.
  2. Adipic Acid Raw Material: Oxidized to produce adipic acid, used in the production of nylon 66, polyurethane, and plasticizers.
  3. Solvent/Thinner: Dissolves nitrocellulose, alkyd resins, polyurethane, and PVC, used in high-grade paints and coatings, inks, and thinners.
  4. Pesticides and Pharmaceuticals: Used as a reaction solvent and intermediate for formulating pesticide emulsifiable concentrates and for pharmaceutical synthesis.
  5. Fine Chemicals: Used to produce downstream derivatives such as cyclohexanone oxime, cyclohexylamine, and hexamethylenediamine.

Packaging and Storage/Transportation

Packaging: Typically packaged in 200L galvanized iron drums, with a net weight of approximately 190 kg per drum. Large quantities are shipped via ISO tank containers, tank trucks, and IBC tote tanks.

Storage: This is a Class 3 flammable liquid, UN No. 1915, with a flash point of approximately 44°C. It should be stored in a cool, well-ventilated warehouse dedicated to flammable liquids, with a warehouse temperature not exceeding 37°C, away from ignition sources and heat, and protected from direct sunlight. It should be stored separately from oxidizers, strong acids, and strong bases, and must never be stored together with them. The warehouse’s lighting and ventilation should use explosion-proof equipment, and containers and pipelines must be reliably grounded to prevent static electricity.

Transportation: Must be transported in accordance with Class 3 flammable liquid regulations, with vehicles equipped with flame arrestors and fire-fighting equipment. Loading and unloading should be handled gently to prevent damage to packaging and containers; in summer, transportation is best conducted in the early morning or evening, and the product should be protected from sun exposure, rain, and high temperatures during transport.
