Product Overview
n-Butyl Acetate, CAS No. 123-86-4, is a colorless, transparent liquid with a fruity aroma. Industrially, it is produced through the esterification of acetic acid and n-butanol under the catalysis of concentrated sulfuric acid or solid acid catalysts. Compared to ethyl acetate, this product has a higher boiling point (approximately 126°C) and a slower evaporation rate, making it a medium-boiling-point, slow-drying solvent that effectively improves paint film leveling and prevents blushing and orange peel in coating films. It serves as a key “tail solvent” for high-grade automotive and wood coatings. In addition, it has excellent dissolving power for nitrocellulose, acrylic resins, and polyurethane, and is also widely used in fragrances/flavors and pharmaceutical extraction.

Product Uses
- Inks and Coatings: Used as a slow-drying true solvent for automotive coatings, wood coatings, nitrocellulose lacquers, and gravure inks, improving leveling and gloss.
- Fragrances and Flavors: Used as a solvent and flavor base for banana, pineapple, and other fruit-flavored fragrances (food grade).
- Pharmaceutical Extraction: Used as an extraction and refining solvent for antibiotics.
- Adhesives and Artificial Leather: Used in the formulation of polyurethane adhesives and PU artificial leather surface treatment agents.
- Cleaning and Paint Stripping: Used as a metal parts cleaning agent and a component of paint strippers.
Packaging and Storage/Transportation
Packaging: Typically packaged in 200L galvanized iron drums, with a net weight of approximately 180 kg per drum. Large quantities are shipped via ISO tank containers, tank trucks, and IBC tote tanks.
Storage: This is a Class 3 flammable liquid, UN No. 1123, with a flash point of approximately 22°C. It should be stored in a cool, well-ventilated flammable liquids warehouse, with a warehouse temperature not exceeding 30°C, away from ignition sources and heat, with open flames and smoking strictly prohibited. Electrical and ventilation equipment must be explosion-proof, and containers must be grounded to prevent static electricity. It should be stored separately from oxidizers, strong bases, and strong acids. Containers should be sealed to prevent moisture absorption, avoiding hydrolysis that would increase acidity and affect paint film performance.
Transportation: Must be transported in accordance with Class 3 flammable liquid regulations, with vehicles equipped with flame arrestors and fire-fighting equipment. Loading and unloading should be handled gently to prevent packaging damage, and during summer transportation, precautions should be taken against sun exposure with attention to ventilation and heat dissipation.
