Product Overview

Dipropylene Glycol (abbreviated as DPG), CAS No. 25265-71-8, is a colorless, transparent, viscous liquid that is nearly odorless and tasteless. It is a co-product generated during the hydration of propylene oxide to produce propylene glycol, obtained through distillation and fractionation for purification. DPG has a high boiling point (approximately 232°C), extremely low volatility, mild hygroscopicity, and very low toxicity, while also offering excellent dissolving and fragrance-fixing capability for perfume compounds. As a result, it is regarded as a premium solvent and humectant in the cosmetics and fragrance industries. In addition, it is an important polyol raw material for unsaturated polyester resins, polyurethane, and plasticizers, with the low-odor grade (LO grade) product being particularly favored by personal care and household chemical customers.

Product Uses

  1. Fragrances and Flavors: Used as a premium fragrance solvent and fixative that barely interferes with scent profiles, widely used in perfumes, essential oils, and scented products.
  2. Cosmetics: Used as a humectant, solvent, and penetration enhancer in creams, lotions, facial masks, and makeup removers.
  3. Unsaturated Polyester Resin: Used as a flexible diol component to improve resin toughness and weather resistance.
  4. Polyurethane: Used as a chain extender and polyol raw material for PU elastomers, adhesives, and coatings.
  5. Plasticizers and Cutting Fluids: Used to produce environmentally friendly plasticizers such as dipropylene glycol dibenzoate, and also used in formulating metalworking fluids and brake fluids.

Packaging and Storage/Transportation

Packaging: Typically packaged in 215kg iron drums or plastic drums; large quantities are shipped in bulk via 1000L IBC tote tanks, ISO tank containers, and tank trucks. Low-odor grade product for personal care/household chemical applications is packaged in dedicated clean drums.

Storage: This product is not classified as a hazardous chemical and is stored as general cargo. It should be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse, with containers kept sealed to prevent moisture absorption and odor contamination. Keep away from heat sources, oxidizers, and materials with strong odors (this product readily absorbs foreign odors, which can affect fragrance applications). Avoid prolonged direct sunlight exposure.

Transportation: Transported as general cargo. During loading and unloading, precautions should be taken against rain exposure and packaging damage. For personal care and fragrance-grade product, transport containers must be confirmed clean and odor-free before shipping, and tank containers must have previous cargo records and cleaning certificates verified.
