Isopropanol (abbreviated as IPA), CAS No. 67-63-0, is a colorless, transparent liquid with an odor similar to a mixture of ethanol and acetone, miscible with water in any ratio. Industrially, it is mainly produced via the hydration of propylene or the hydrogenation of acetone, with the latter often co-produced alongside bisphenol A and phenol production facilities; we can supply product manufactured via both processes. Isopropanol combines the polarity of alcohols with a degree of lipophilicity, offering strong degreasing power, fast evaporation, low residue, and essentially no corrosiveness toward metals, making it a primary solvent in electronics cleaning, medical disinfection, and the printing industry. Product Uses
- Electronics Cleaning: Used as a cleaning and drying solvent for semiconductors, LCD panels, optical lenses, and PCBs (electronic grade).
- Pharmaceuticals and Disinfection: Used as an active pharmaceutical ingredient solvent, extraction agent, and the active component in 75% disinfectant solutions and hand sanitizers.
- Printing and Coatings: Used as a component of offset printing fountain solutions and as a solvent/diluent for coatings and inks.
- Organic Synthesis: Used to produce derivatives such as aluminum isopropoxide, sodium/potassium isopropoxide, diisopropylamine, isopropylamine, isopropyl ether, and isopropyl acetate.
- Personal Care and Antifreeze: Used as a cosmetics solvent and a component of windshield washer fluid and automotive antifreeze.
Packaging and Storage/Transportation
Packaging: Typically packaged in 200L galvanized iron drums, with a net weight of approximately 160 kg per drum. Large quantities are shipped via ISO tank containers, tank trucks, and IBC tote tanks, with electronic-grade product packaged in dedicated stainless steel drums or clean plastic drums.
Storage: This is a Class 3 flammable liquid, UN No. 1219, with a flash point of approximately 12°C, making it highly flammable. It should be stored in a cool, well-ventilated Class A hazardous materials warehouse, with a warehouse temperature not exceeding 30°C, away from ignition sources and heat, with open flames and smoking strictly prohibited. Electrical and ventilation equipment must be explosion-proof, and containers and pipelines must be grounded and bonded to prevent static electricity. It should be stored separately from oxidizers and acids. Containers must be sealed to prevent moisture absorption — this product is highly hygroscopic, and excessive moisture content will directly affect electronics cleaning performance.
Transportation: Must be transported in accordance with Class 3 flammable liquid regulations, with vehicles equipped with flame arrestors, static-electricity-discharging ground straps, and fire-fighting equipment. Flow rate should be controlled during loading and unloading to prevent static discharge, and open flames and non-explosion-proof electrical devices are strictly prohibited in the work area.
