Product Overview

Ethylene Glycol (abbreviated as MEG), CAS No. 107-21-1, is a colorless, transparent, viscous liquid with a sweet taste, miscible with water in any ratio, and exhibits a pronounced freezing-point depression effect. Industrially, there are two mainstream production routes: the petroleum route, in which ethylene is epoxidized to form ethylene oxide, which is then hydrated; and the coal-chemical route, which synthesizes the product from carbon monoxide and hydrogen via the oxalate ester method. We can supply product from both routes. Ethylene glycol is the core diol of the polyester industry chain, with over 90% of global production used to manufacture PET (polyester fiber, bottle-grade chips, and film). At the same time, due to its excellent freezing-point suppression and heat-transfer properties, it is the primary raw material for automotive and industrial antifreeze.

Product Uses

  1. Polyester Raw Material: Undergoes polycondensation with PTA to produce PET resin, including fiber grade (polyester fiber), bottle-grade chips (mineral water bottles), and film grade PET.
  2. Antifreeze and Coolant: Used to formulate automotive engine antifreeze/coolant, central air conditioning systems, and industrial coolants.
  3. Polyester Resins and Plasticizers: Used to synthesize unsaturated polyester resins, alkyd resins, and plasticizers.
  4. Gas Dehydration and Solvent: Used as a natural gas dehydration agent, dye and ink solvent, and humectant.
  5. Fine Chemicals: Used to produce glyoxal, surfactants, synthetic fiber additives, and wetting agents for cellophane, leather, and adhesives.

Packaging and Storage/Transportation

Packaging: Typically packaged in 230kg galvanized iron drums or plastic drums; large quantities are shipped in bulk via 1000L IBC tote tanks, ISO tank containers, and tank trucks, with polyester-grade product requiring stainless steel or dedicated clean tank containers.

Storage: This product is not classified as a hazardous chemical and is stored as general cargo. It should be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse, with containers sealed to prevent moisture absorption — this product is highly hygroscopic, and excessive moisture content will affect the polyester polycondensation reaction. Keep away from heat sources and oxidizers, and avoid direct sunlight exposure. Polyester-grade product must be stored in a dedicated warehouse, strictly guarding against contamination from iron ions and aldehyde impurities that could affect the color of the finished product.

Transportation: Transported as general cargo. In northern regions during winter, note that this product has a freezing point of approximately -13°C and may thicken in low-temperature environments; moderate heat tracing can be applied before unloading. During loading and unloading, precautions should be taken against rain exposure and contamination, and for polyester-grade product transport, tank cleaning certificates and previous cargo records must be verified.

Product Advantages
