Product Overview
Diethylene Glycol (abbreviated as DEG), CAS No. 111-46-6, is a colorless, transparent, viscous liquid with a slightly sweet taste, miscible with water. It is a co-product of the ethylene oxide hydration process used to produce ethylene glycol, obtained through distillation and fractionation for purification. DEG has a high boiling point of 245°C, extremely low volatility, strong hygroscopicity, and excellent selective absorption capability for aromatics and acidic gases, making it well-established in natural gas dehydration and aromatics extraction applications. It is also an important polyol raw material for unsaturated polyester resins, plasticizers, and polyurethane foam materials, and is widely used as a high-boiling-point solvent and humectant.

Product Uses
- Gas Dehydration and Aromatics Extraction: Used as a natural gas dehydration agent and aromatics extraction solvent, extracting aromatics, coumarone, and indene from reformate oil and coal tar.
- Solvent Applications: Dissolves nitrocellulose, resins, oils/fats, and printing inks, serving as a high-boiling-point, slow-drying solvent.
- Textile Auxiliaries: Used as a textile softener, finishing agent, and lubricant.
- Polyester and Polyurethane: Used as a polyol component in the synthesis of unsaturated polyester resins, polyurethane foam, and fiberglass products.
- Other Applications: Used as a brake fluid compounding agent, celluloid softener, antifreeze, emulsion polymerization diluent, cigarette humectant, anti-drying agent for pastes and various adhesives, moisture-retention aid for vat dyes, and lubricating oil viscosity improver.
Packaging and Storage/Transportation
Packaging: Typically packaged in 230kg iron drums or plastic drums; large quantities are shipped in bulk via 1000L IBC tote tanks, ISO tank containers, and tank trucks.
Storage: This product is not classified as a hazardous chemical and is stored as general cargo. It should be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse, with containers sealed to prevent moisture absorption — this product is highly hygroscopic, and moisture content will rise rapidly if stored with open containers. Keep away from heat sources, ignition sources, and oxidizers, and avoid prolonged direct sunlight exposure.
Transportation: Transported as general cargo. Low temperatures in winter can significantly increase viscosity; moderate heat tracing can be applied before unloading to facilitate transfer. During loading and unloading, precautions should be taken against rain exposure, contamination, and packaging damage, and transport containers must be clean and dry.
