Product Introduction

Diethylene Glycol Butyl Ether (Diethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether, abbreviated as DB or BDG), CAS No. 112-34-5, is a colorless and transparent liquid with a faint odor, fully miscible with water. It is industrially produced by multi-stage addition of ethylene oxide with n-butanol, followed by distillation and cutting, making it the double-addition homolog of ethylene glycol butyl ether. Compared with EB (Ethylene Glycol Butyl Ether), DB has a higher boiling point (approximately 230°C), slower evaporation rate, lower odor, and lower toxicity. It is a slow-drying, high-boiling coupling solvent that continues to assist film formation during the later stages of drying in water-based coatings, significantly improving the leveling and gloss of the coating film. It is one of the preferred solvents for high-grade water-based industrial paints and floor waxes.

Product Applications

  1. Water-based Coatings: Used as a high-boiling film-forming aid and leveling agent in water-based industrial paints, latex paints, and baking finishes, improving the appearance of the coating film;
  2. Floor Wax and Polishes: Used as a main solvent and co-solvent in floor wax, furniture polish, and leather polish;
  3. Cleaning Agents: Used in heavy oil stain cleaners, paint removers, and industrial wax removers;
  4. Ink and Printing/Dyeing: Used as a slow-drying solvent for water-based inks and as a textile printing and dyeing auxiliary;
  5. Organic Synthesis: Used to produce corresponding acetate solvents and surfactant intermediates.

Packaging, Storage & Transportation

Packaging: Standard packaging in 200kg iron or plastic drums; for large volumes, shipped in bulk via 1000L IBC totes, ISO tank containers, or tank trucks.

Storage: Not classified as a hazardous chemical; stored as general cargo. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse with containers sealed to prevent moisture absorption, which could affect the water content specification. Keep away from heat sources, fire sources, and oxidizing agents, and avoid prolonged direct sunlight exposure.

Transportation: Transported as general cargo. During loading and unloading, protect against rain exposure, contamination, and packaging damage. Although classified as general cargo, this product still has a certain degree of irritancy; it is recommended to wear gloves and goggles and maintain good ventilation during handling.
