Product Introduction
Octanol (2-Ethylhexanol, also known as isooctanol), CAS No. 104-76-7, is a colorless and transparent liquid with a distinctive aromatic alcohol odor, slightly soluble in water. Industrially, it is produced via the propylene process: propylene and syngas are used as raw materials, undergoing carbonylation (hydroformylation) under rhodium catalysis to form mixed butyraldehydes; n-butyraldehyde is then condensed, dehydrated, hydrogenated, and finally refined through distillation and rectification. Octanol is the most important plasticizer alcohol, with over 70% of global production used to manufacture phthalate and non-phthalate plasticizers such as DOP and DOTP; owing to its surface-active and defoaming properties, it is also widely used as a raw material for defoamers, dispersants, mineral flotation agents, and petroleum additives.

Product Applications
- Plasticizer Raw Material: Esterified with phthalic anhydride or terephthalic acid to produce plasticizers such as DOP, DOTP, and DOA, used in flexible PVC products;
- Defoamers and Dispersants: Used as a defoamer, pigment dispersant, and wetting agent in water-based systems;
- Mineral Flotation Agent: Used as a flotation frother and regulator in metal ore beneficiation;
- Petroleum Additives: Used to produce anti-wear agents, pour point depressants, and lubricating oil additives;
- Printing/Dyeing and Paints: Used as a textile dyeing auxiliary, coating film-forming aid, and solvent for film and photosensitive materials.
Packaging, Storage & Transportation
Packaging: Standard packaging in 170kg or 200L iron drums; for large volumes, shipped in bulk via 1000L IBC totes, ISO tank containers, or tank trucks.
Storage: Not classified as a hazardous chemical (flash point approximately 82°C); stored as general cargo or Category C combustible liquid. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse, away from fire sources, heat sources, and oxidizing agents. Keep containers sealed to prevent moisture absorption, and avoid prolonged direct sunlight exposure, which could affect color specifications.
Transportation: Transported as general cargo. During loading and unloading, protect against rain exposure, contamination, and packaging damage; transport containers must be clean and dry. Although classified as general cargo, it is still recommended to keep away from open flames and wear basic protective equipment.
