Product Introduction

Polyester Polyol, CAS No. 9009-54-5, is a light yellow transparent viscous liquid at 25°C (some higher molecular weight grades appear as a paste-like solid in winter). Industrially, it is produced by polycondensation of dibasic acids (phthalic anhydride, adipic acid, terephthalic acid, or recycled PET) with polyols (ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, neopentyl glycol, etc.), typically with a molecular weight ranging from 500~5000. Compared with polyether polyol, polyester polyol offers higher mechanical strength, abrasion resistance, and oil resistance; aromatic-based grades, due to their high benzene ring content, also significantly enhance flame retardancy and reduce smoke density, making them a key component for PUR/PIR insulation boards to achieve B1 fire rating. Its relative drawback is somewhat lower hydrolysis resistance, which in practical formulations is often addressed by incorporating hydrolysis stabilizers.

Basic Product Specifications

  • CAS No.: 9009-54-5
  • UN No.: None
  • HS Code: 3907910000
  • Hazard Classification: General Cargo
  • Density: 1.10~1.20 g/cm³ (25°C, varies by grade)
  • Purity: ≥98.0%; key parameters controlled via hydroxyl value: common grades have a hydroxyl value of 220~320 mgKOH/g (board-type) or 32~120 mgKOH/g (elastomer/adhesive-type), Acid value ≤2.0 mgKOH/g, Moisture ≤0.10%

Product Applications

  1. PUR/PIR Insulation Boards: Used as a high-aromatic-content component in continuous and discontinuous polyurethane board production, meeting B1 fire rating and low smoke density requirements;
  2. Rigid Foam and Spray Coatings: Used in polyurethane spray foam, pour-in-place formulations, block foam, and cryogenic insulation systems;
  3. Polyurethane Coatings: Used as the primary resin in wood coatings, automotive paints, and industrial anti-corrosion coatings, providing excellent adhesion and chemical resistance;
  4. Adhesives and Sealants: Used in structural adhesives, laminating adhesives, and sealants requiring high strength and durability;
  5. Elastomers: Used in highly abrasion-resistant products such as conveyor belts, shoe soles, solid tires, and seals.

Packaging, Storage & Transportation

Packaging: Standard packaging in 220kg or 240kg galvanized iron drums; 1000~1100kg IBC totes and tank truck shipment also available; 20kg galvanized square pails available for small volumes.

Storage: Not classified as a hazardous chemical; stored as general cargo. This product must be stored away from water and moisture in a cool, well-ventilated location, with a recommended storage temperature of 15~50°C; shelf life in original drum packaging is generally 6 months. Containers must be sealed to prevent moisture absorption, as moisture uptake will affect the reaction ratio with isocyanate and foam quality. Keep away from heat sources and open flames, and avoid direct sunlight exposure. Product that has exceeded its storage period should be re-tested for hydroxyl value, acid value, moisture, and viscosity, and may continue to be used if it passes inspection.

Transportation: Transported as general cargo, protected against rain exposure, impact, packaging damage, and contamination. In winter, some grades will solidify into a paste-like state; before use, they must be slowly heated and melted at 40~60°C and thoroughly stirred to uniformity, which does not affect product performance.
