Product Introduction

Trichloroethylene (abbreviated as TCE), CAS No. 79-01-6, is a colorless and transparent liquid with a chloroform-like aromatic odor, non-flammable with vapor that is not readily explosive. Industrially, it is produced via the acetylene chlorination process or the chlorination/cracking of 1,2-dichloroethane. TCE has extremely strong solvency for oils, waxes, resins, and asphalt, with a boiling point of approximately 87°C, low surface tension, good penetrating ability, and non-flammability, making it one of the highest-performing solvents for metal degreasing and cleaning (particularly vapor degreasing processes), with fast drying and no residue after cleaning. The product must have amine-based or epoxy-based stabilizers added to inhibit decomposition and acid formation under the influence of light, heat, metal, and oxygen, thereby avoiding corrosion of equipment and workpieces.

Product Applications

  1. Metal Degreasing and Cleaning: Used as a vapor degreasing and immersion cleaning solvent for removing oil and grease from hardware components, bearings, motors, and precision parts;
  2. Electronic Cleaning: Used for flux removal and degreasing of printed circuit boards, electronic components, and optical parts;
  3. Dry Cleaning and Textiles: Used as a dry cleaning solvent and textile stain remover;
  4. Extraction and Solvent Applications: Used for extraction of oils/fats, fragrance compounds, and pharmaceutical ingredients, as well as a solvent for coatings and adhesives;
  5. Chemical Intermediate: Used to produce monochloroacetic acid, vinyl chloride derivatives, and raw materials for fluorinated refrigerants such as HFC-134a.

Packaging, Storage & Transportation

Packaging: Standard packaging in 300kg galvanized iron drums; for large volumes, shipped in bulk via 1000kg IBC totes, ISO tank containers, or tank trucks.

Storage: Classified as a Class 6 toxic substance, UN No. 1710. Must be stored in a cool, well-ventilated, light-protected warehouse dedicated to hazardous materials, with warehouse temperature not exceeding 30°C, avoiding direct sunlight exposure (light exposure accelerates decomposition and acid formation). Must be strictly stored separately from oxidizing agents, strong alkalis, and reactive metal powders (aluminum, magnesium powder) — never store together, as TCE may react violently upon contact with aluminum powder or strong alkalis. Containers must be sealed to prevent moisture absorption; for long-term storage, acidity and stabilizer content should be periodically tested.

Transportation: Transported in accordance with Class 6 toxic substance regulations. Handle gently during loading and unloading to prevent packaging damage; forced ventilation is mandatory at the work site, and personnel must wear self-priming filter-type respirators and solvent-resistant gloves — this product has a high vapor density and readily accumulates in low-lying areas, so inhalation must be avoided and unprotected work in confined spaces is strictly prohibited.
