Product Introduction

Linear Alkylbenzene Sulfonic Acid (abbreviated as LABSA, also known as alkylbenzene sulfonic acid or soft acid), CAS No. 27176-87-0, molecular formula R-C₆H₄-SO₃H (where R is C10~C13 linear alkyl chain), average molecular weight approx. 326. It appears as a brown to amber viscous liquid with a characteristic acidic odor. Industrially, it is produced by sulfonation of linear alkylbenzene (LAB) with sulfur trioxide or oleum. LABSA is the world’s largest-volume anionic surfactant intermediate. After neutralization with sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide, or triethanolamine, it forms LAS salts, which serve as the primary active ingredient in laundry powders and detergents. Its outstanding advantages include strong detergency, rich foaming, high biodegradability (>90% in 28 days), and low cost, offering leading cost-performance among similar products.

Product Applications

  1. Primary Raw Material for Detergents: Neutralized to LAS salts, used as the main active ingredient in laundry powders, laundry liquids, dishwashing detergents, and soaps.
  2. Household and Industrial Cleaning: Formulated into hard surface cleaners, floor cleaners, car wash agents, degreasers, and heavy-duty kitchen grease cleaners.
  3. Industrial and Institutional Cleaning (I&I): Used in metal degreasing, equipment cleaning, and I&I cleaning formulations.
  4. Textile, Dyeing, and Leather: Employed as a wetting agent, leveling auxiliary, emulsifier, and leather degreasing agent.
  5. Other Applications: Used in paper deinking, electroplating auxiliaries, pesticide wetting agents, and petroleum emulsifiers.

Packaging, Storage, and Transport

  • Packaging: Conventional 200 kg or 220 kg HDPE plastic drums; bulk quantities are available in 1000–1100 kg IBC totes, Flexitanks, and ISO tanks for shipment. A 20-foot container can load 80 drums.
  • Storage: Classified as a Class 8 corrosive substance, UN No. 2586. Must be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse, with a recommended storage temperature of 15–40°C: below 10°C, viscosity increases significantly and crystallization may occur, affecting pumpability. Keep separate from strong alkalis, oxidizing agents, and metallic materials; avoid mixed storage. Containers must be made of HDPE, acid-resistant plastic, stainless steel, or epoxy-lined material; ordinary carbon steel is prohibited. Under sealed conditions, the shelf life is generally 12–24 months.
  • Transport: Must be transported in compliance with Class 8 corrosive goods regulations; vehicles must display corrosive substance warning signs. During loading and unloading, operators must wear acid-resistant gloves, goggles, face shields, and protective clothing. Eyewash stations and ample clean water must be available on-site.
  • Usage Tip: Neutralization is highly exothermic; materials must be added slowly with adequate stirring and cooling to prevent localized overheating that may cause product discoloration.
