Product Introduction
Dioctyl Phthalate (strictly known as Bis(2-ethylhexyl) Phthalate, abbreviated DOP or DEHP), CAS No. 117-81-7, is a colorless to light yellow transparent oily liquid, almost odorless, and poorly soluble in water. Industrially, it is produced by the esterification of phthalic anhydride with octanol (2-ethylhexanol) under catalytic conditions. DOP is historically the largest-volume and most well-balanced general-purpose plasticizer: it offers excellent compatibility with PVC, high plasticizing efficiency, low volatility, outstanding cold resistance and electrical insulation properties, and a wide processing window, earning it the reputation of being the performance benchmark among plasticizers. Please note that DOP belongs to the phthalate class of plasticizers, and its use in food contact, medical devices, and toys is subject to regulatory restrictions in these areas; for such applications, non-phthalate alternatives such as DOTP are recommended instead.

Product Applications
- PVC soft products: Used as the primary plasticizer in PVC cable compounds, hoses, films, artificial leather, flooring, and sealing strips;
- Coatings and adhesives: Used as a plasticizer and flexibility modifier in coatings, inks, sealants, and adhesives;
- Rubber additives: Used as a plasticizer and softener for nitrile rubber and chloroprene rubber;
- Cellulose-based plastics: Used for plasticizing nitrocellulose, ethyl cellulose, and cellulose acetate products;
- Other applications: Used as a dye carrier, paint additive, and solvent carrier for certain pesticide emulsifiable concentrates.
Packaging, Storage, and Transportation
Packaging: Standard packaging in 200kg steel or plastic drums; for large volumes, shipped in 1000L IBC totes, ISO tank containers, or bulk tank trucks.
Storage: Not classified as a hazardous chemical (flash point ~215°C); store as general cargo or Class C combustible liquid. Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse, away from ignition sources, heat, and strong oxidizers, and avoid prolonged direct sunlight exposure to prevent color increase. Keep containers sealed to protect against moisture and dust.
Transportation: Transport as general cargo. During loading and unloading, protect against rain exposure, contamination, and packaging damage; transport containers must be clean and dry. Note: DOP is a phthalate substance of concern — before export, verify compliance with the destination country’s REACH, RoHS, and relevant toy and food-contact regulatory limits; it must not be used in direct-contact components of food packaging, medical devices, or children’s toys.
