Product Introduction

Sodium Hydrosulfide (abbreviated NaHS), CAS No. 16721-80-5, molecular weight 56.06, appears as a yellow to orange-yellow or brown flake solid, is highly deliquescent, has a strong hydrogen sulfide odor, and its aqueous solution is strongly alkaline (pH approx. 11–12.5). Industrially, it is produced by absorbing hydrogen sulfide gas into high-purity caustic soda solution, followed by continuous evaporation and flaking, in accordance with standard GB 23937. NaHS possesses both reducing and sulfidizing properties, offering unique selectivity as an activator and depressant in sulfide ore flotation, making it an important reagent for beneficiation of copper and other non-ferrous metal ores. It is also well-established in applications such as unhairing in leather tanning, preparation of sulfur dyes, and precipitation of heavy metals from wastewater. Its flake structure provides a large specific surface area, resulting in fast dissolution with no caking residue.

Product Applications

  1. Mineral processing reagent: Used as an activator and depressant in sulfide ore flotation, widely applied in the flotation separation of copper and other non-ferrous metal ores;
  2. Leather industry: Used for hydrolytic unhairing and tanning of raw hides, and also used in the manufacture of sodium polysulfide to accelerate soaking and softening;
  3. Dye industry: Used as a raw material and dissolving agent for sulfur dyes (sulfur black, sulfur blue), as well as an auxiliary agent in organic intermediate synthesis;
  4. Wastewater treatment: Used as a sulfide precipitant to remove heavy metal ions such as copper, lead, mercury, and cadmium from wastewater;
  5. Other applications: Used as a cooking agent and sulfur supplement in the paper industry, for removing elemental sulfur from desulfurized activated carbon in the fertilizer industry, and in the textile industry for denitrification of synthetic fibers and mordanting of cotton fabrics.

Packaging, Storage, and Transportation

Packaging: Standard packaging in 25kg woven bags with plastic film liners; for large volumes, 900kg or 1000kg jumbo bags (with pallet option) are available, with a 20-foot container holding approximately 18–22 tons.

Storage: Classified as a Class 8 corrosive solid, UN No. 2949. Must be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated warehouse, with strict moisture protection and sealing — this product is highly deliquescent, and moisture absorption will cause caking and accelerate decomposition, releasing hydrogen sulfide gas. Storage temperature must be kept below 50°C (melting point approx. 55°C). Must be strictly separated from acids and never co-stored with them — NaHS reacts violently with acids, releasing highly toxic hydrogen sulfide gas. It must also be kept away from ignition sources, heat, and oxidizers, and the warehouse must be equipped with an explosion-proof ventilation system while avoiding dust accumulation.

Transportation: Transport in accordance with Class 8 corrosive solid regulations, protected from rain exposure and moisture throughout. During loading and unloading, handle gently to prevent packaging damage; the work area must have forced ventilation and be equipped with hydrogen sulfide gas detection and alarm devices, and operators must wear gas masks, protective goggles, and corrosion-resistant gloves. Working unattended in confined spaces is strictly prohibited, and leak response must be carried out by trained professionals.
