Product Introduction

Calcium Formate, CAS No. 544-17-2, is a white crystalline powder, slightly hygroscopic, readily soluble in water, and its aqueous solution is weakly acidic. Industrially, it is produced by neutralizing formic acid with calcium hydroxide or calcium carbonate, with a polyol by-product route also available. Calcium formate combines the acidifying and antibacterial effects of formic acid with the nutritional calcium-supplementing function, and contains no chloride ions, giving it irreplaceable value in two major fields — animal feed and construction materials. As a feed acidifier, it can lower gastrointestinal pH, inhibit harmful bacteria, and improve feed intake and survival rates in piglets and poultry. As a cement early-strength agent, it introduces no chloride ions and does not corrode reinforcing steel, making it a preferred chloride-free early-strength agent for winter construction and precast components.

Product Applications

  1. Feed additive: Used as an acidifier, mold inhibitor, and calcium source in piglet, poultry, and aquaculture feed, improving gut health and feed conversion ratio (feed grade);
  2. Construction early-strength agent: Used as a chloride-free early-strength agent and set accelerator in cement, mortar, precast components, and winter construction, without corroding reinforcing steel;
  3. Leather industry: Used as a tanning aid and deliming agent to replace part of the ammonium sulfate used, reducing ammonia nitrogen emissions;
  4. Drilling and oilfield applications: Used as a drilling fluid additive and cementing agent component;
  5. Other applications: Used as a grease thickener, coating additive, and in the preparation of formate series products.

Packaging, Storage, and Transportation

Packaging: Standard packaging in 25kg woven bags or kraft paper bags with plastic liners; for large volumes, 500kg or 1000kg jumbo bags are available.

Storage: Not classified as a hazardous chemical; store as general cargo. Must be stored in a dry, well-ventilated, clean warehouse, protected from rain and moisture — this product is slightly hygroscopic and prone to caking when exposed to moisture. Keep away from heat sources, ignition sources, strong oxidizers, and strong alkalis. Stack neatly on raised platforms, and keep the warehouse clean and dust-free. Feed-grade product must be stored in a dedicated warehouse and must not be stored together with pesticides, fertilizers, or toxic and hazardous materials, to prevent cross-contamination.

Transportation: Transport as general cargo. During loading and unloading, handle gently to prevent packaging damage and dust dispersion, and protect against rain exposure and moisture throughout transport. Operators are recommended to wear dust masks and gloves. Feed-grade product transportation must use clean, dedicated transport vehicles, with cleaning and previous cargo records retained to meet feed safety traceability requirements.
